3/14/16: We now have a First Grade page! Our group meets in the reading room now and we have been busier than ever! Our time together consists of reading stories, sight words, tapping out word families, and writing. We have started to use our new projector for reading A to Z books, and we love it so much, that we are using it instead of printing the books out. This allows for customized and individualized instant adjusting of book levels, many highlighting features not available in printed books, and eye catching illustrations in beautiful color! We read many more books as well. Students can interact with the text and everyone can experience guidance of a particular feature or skill in large, easy to visuals. We also play our interactive games this way, and the kids love it! Our list of books thus far (for February and March) include Animals Can Move, Community Helpers, Will It Come?, I Had to Look, Are These His or Hers?, Caretakers, Bird Colors, A Cold day, The Birthday Party, Fruit Colors, We Go, What Is Out There?, The Easter Egg Hunt, Go Away, lily, Go Animals Go,Games We Play , Lily the Cat, The Busy pond, Give Them back, Time For Soccer, All Kinds of Farms, Get In and Silent E!! Yes, first grade is reading up a storm!!
5/10/16: We continue with our word work, including CVC words, ea/ee vowel pairs and silent e. Our books have included I looked Everywhere, All Kinds of Farms, Where Will She Go?, Let's Make Lemonade, Best Friends, Stella Storyteller, Police Officers and When I Grow up! We also play many words games, including Hop To It with our sight words.
6/22: First Grade has been reading many great books in June! They include The Contest (sequencing focus), The First Strawberry (sequencing focus), as well as sight words and a variety of word families. Sight word lists for students are being sent home in my progress reports. Please practice a few with your student each day!
