10/1: 6th graders are just finishing their work on Yellow Brick Roadies, with a focus on character traits and changes in characters in a story. Next they will tackle an opinion and argument essay based on a non fiction short story.
11/30: 6th grade has shifted from longer stories to very short stories and writing pieces because some students attend chorus every other week. I love using these bursts of shorter stories....it is very meaningful and we get much done in a short period of time!
12/21: The group took the epic challenge of Pepsi vs. Coca Cola with a blind taste test. Our hall display will be completed when we come back from break. Lots of writing for this project....it was awesome!
1/27/2016: We have done much writing since we returned in early January. We are just starting a Super Bowl assignment, where we are learning how to carefully craft and Thesis Statement and add colorful details to our essay!
2/9/16:he Super Bowl may be cold news, but our essays about super snacks are just heating up! We are adding details to our sub topics...after the break, we will start our rough and final copies! They are beginning to understand the process as it all comes together!
3/21/2016: Our Super Bowl projects are done and hanging in the hallway! Next, its all about Goliath Bird Eating Arachnids!
5/10/16: Our next amazing project was to take a chance! We rolled the dice to get a crazy mix of characters, setting and problems. We wrote about it, created a poster to illustrate it, and presented the creative piece to the group. Now, we are learning about theme. 6th grade can tell you its NOT the main idea!
6/22/16: The focus of theme continued a bit into June, but soon we were completing our QRI assessments, culminating in an ice cream party. Students loved the theme unit the best....and so did I!
